Who Should Stay With Me During Detox?

Going through detox from alcohol or drug detox can be one of the most vulnerable experiences in someone’s life. Emotions can run high, especially when feelings start to return after the numbing effects of substances wear off. Should you choose InHome Recovery services as opposed to drug rehab in Nashville, you will be able to have anyone stay with you that you want there for support. Who you choose to be by your side during this phase of recovery is crucial to your healing process. To help you decide, let’s start with who you shouldn’t have with you.

No One Who Activates Old Wounds

We have to remind ourselves- we used and drank for a reason. There are several layers of pain that drive us to numb out, and some of it may stem from past trauma. It’s not a good idea to have someone around that may stimulate old childhood wounds, especially family members. This applies to parents, siblings, even spouses. And don’t allow children within close quarters.

No One in Active Addiction

While you may be friends with several people still doing drugs or abusing alcohol, it’s important that you take some space from them when going through detox. Not only may you be tempted to use with them, but their current condition may trigger you during this emotional time.

Choose Someone Who Loves You Unconditionally

Is there someone (or group) that’s been a constant rock and never given up on you? Have they been there through good and bad, thick and thin without judgment or criticism? This is the person (or people) you go with. Someone who knows the real you can be of tremendous value.

Please reach out to InHome Recovery anytime for a full medical assessment.
